چکیده

With the emergence of connected vehicle data and high-resolution weather data, there is an opportunity to develop models with high spatial-temporal fidelity characterize impact on interstate traffic speeds. In this study, 275,422 trip records from 41,234 unique journeys 42 rainy days in 2021 2022 were obtained. These are categorized as no rain, slight moderate heavy very rain periods using precipitation rate NOAA High-Resolution Rapid-Refresh (HRRR) data. It was observed that average speeds decreased by approximately 8.4% during conditions classified compared rain. Similarly, interquartile range increased 8.34 mph 12.24 intensity increased. This study also developed a disaggregate approach logit relationship between weather-related variables (precipitation rate, visibility, temperature, wind, day or night) speed reductions. Estimation results reveal odds ratio reducing 5.8% higher for drivers if 1 mm/h. The headwind found have positive significant only up 10% reduction, reduction greater nighttime daytime factor 1.68. additional explanatory shed light drivers’ selection adverse environments, providing more information than single measure. Results will be particularly helpful agencies automobile manufacturers provide advance warnings establish thresholds autonomous control.

Measured versus Default Interstate Traffic Data in New Mexico, USA

Abstract—This study investigates how the site specific traffic data differs from the Mechanistic Empirical Pavement Design Software default values. Two Weigh-in-Motion (WIM) stations were installed in Interstate-40 (I-40) and Interstate-25 (I-25) to developed site specific data. A computer program named WIM Data Analysis Software (WIMDAS) was developed using Microsoft C-Sharp (.Net) for quality...

Traffic noise abatement: How different pavements, vehicle speeds and traffic densities affect annoyance levels

In this paper, annoyance ratings from traffic noise recorded on cobblestones, dense asphalt, and open asphalt rubber pavements are assessed with regard to car speeds and traffic densities. It was found that cobblestones pavements are the most annoying; also while open asphalt rubber pavement imposes less annoyance than dense asphalt it is not significantly different. Higher car speeds always le...

Assessing the Impact of Weather on Traffic Intensity

The investigation of weather effects on traffic intensity is important from a road safety point of view, because traffic intensity is noted as the first and primary determinant of traffic safety. Next to traffic safety, weather conditions affect other predominant traffic variables, namely traffic demand and traffic flow. Therefore the main objective of this study is the identification and compa...
